What makes a high quality flag?
The Hallmarks of Flag Quality
Not all flags are created equal. When ordering a custom flag, look for these specific indicators of high manufacturing quality.
1. The Fabric Weight
A good outdoor polyester flag should weigh between 110gsm and 130gsm. Anything lighter will tear quickly; anything heavier will require a gale-force wind to fly.
2. Reinforced Hems (Stitching)
The "fly end" of the flag (the edge furthest from the pole) takes the most wind damage. A high-quality flag will feature double, triple, or even quadruple needle stitching on the fly end to prevent fraying.
3. Header and Grommets
The header (the binding that attaches to the pole) should be made of heavy-duty canvas or thick reinforced nylon. The grommets should be solid brass to prevent rusting in the rain.
4. Printing Method
Premium custom flags use dye-sublimation printing. This process bakes the ink into the fabric fibers, ensuring the flag is washable, scratch-resistant, and highly resistant to UV fading.
