What are some common flag design mistakes?
Flag Design Pitfalls to Avoid
When designing a custom flag, it's easy to treat it like a digital brochure. Here are the most common mistakes people make.
1. Too Much Text
The biggest mistake in promotional flags is adding phone numbers, addresses, and long slogans. A feather flag is viewed by people driving by at 60 km/h. Keep text limited to 1 or 2 words (e.g., "SALE", "OPEN", "COFFEE").
2. Poor Contrast
Using a dark blue logo on a black background might look sleek on a monitor, but outdoors, it will blend into a single dark shape. Always use high-contrast colors (light on dark, or dark on light).
3. Low-Resolution Images
If you are printing a photograph on a flag, taking a small image from a website will result in a blurry, pixelated mess. Always use high-resolution files (at least 150 DPI at full print size) or vector graphics.
4. Ignoring the Reverse Side
Most flags are printed single-sided with 90% bleed-through. This means the back is a mirror image. If you have asymmetrical logos or text, consider ordering a double-sided flag with a block-out liner in the middle.
